SSH Communications Security (HEX:SSH1V), a world-leading provider of enterprise security solutions and end-to-end communications security, and the original developer of the Secure Shell protocol, today announced that the University of Washington, in Seattle, Washington, USA, has selected SSH Tectia™ Client and SSH Tectia Manager to ensure authenticated access and secure data transmission for students, faculty, and staff using its campus computer network. SSH Tectia Manager will play a key role in administering security policy for the UW's 39,000 students and 23,000 faculty and staff using its extensive computer network at its three statewide campuses.

SSH Tectia, based on the award-winning SSH Secure Shell is used by universities worldwide to protect data internally and externally throughout the network. The SSH1 protocol originated in the academic community in 1995 when Tatu Ylönen, the founder of SSH Communications Security developed what is known today as Secure Shell. The current SSH2 protocol was written by SSH and standardized by the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force).
